24 Episode 5: 10:00a.m.–11:00a.m.

by Staff Writer

10:00a.m.–11:00a.m.

No less than 12,000 people were killed by the bomb instantly, wow!

You knew that was going to set Jack off. After saving a guy from a downed helicopter, on top of the roof of a house (just another minute in the life of Jack Bauer), Jack told Bill that he was back in. No one detonates a nuclear weapon on his soil and gets away with it.

We also were introduced to a few more characters, and an old one that we knew before. Graham, the Bluetooth man is back, and wait for it the twist is that he’s Jack’s brother and it seems that Graham’s hatred for Jack may boil down to a past relationship Jack seems to have had with Graham’s wife (Jack really gets around).

Jack’s Dad Phillip is connected with the terrorists somehow, and Jack needs Graham to help him figure out why. I wonder how deep this really goes.

President Wayne just doesn’t have that commanding presence that David had. When he was in that meeting with the Joint Chiefs it was like a little boy amongst men. He just doesn’t have it, and is falling faster and faster in my books. He showed us the EXACT reason why America doesn’t deal with terrorists, by letting the prisoners go, and having it blow up, quite literally, in his face.

It seems that a lot of information is going to come from Walid, the IAA President that is in the detention camp. I like him more and more, while I like Sandra Palmer less and less; also, kudos to that FBI agent that continues to put Sandra in her place.

Speaking of detention camps, the possibility that Tom Lennox has been pushing this whole time, seems to be creeping its way ever closer to becoming reality. Hopefully it never happens, for the sole fact that we’ll see a lot more uproar over 24 being racist.

It’s tough to tell how things are going to play out between Jack and Graham. I sure hope that Jack finds out that Graham was behind the attacks of last season. Somehow, while Graham is a mastermind of terrorist attacks, I don’t believe he can withstand the “persuasiveness of Jack. That plastic bag at the end was a nice touch. That just looked eerie.

With four more nukes out there, and Fayed looking for a new technician, anything can happen. At least that buys Jack more time to find out what’s going on. Even with all the revelations in this episode, it still reminded me of the third episode, like it’s all leading up to something very big in the next couple episodes.

Stay tuned for the Character Countdown for episode 5. Those of you that don’t know what it is here’s an example.

  1. Doris Armstrong Says:

Loved the show, however the President is sort of numb, doesn’t seem in command. His sister is the opposite, a nervous wreck. She should be proud of her friend as he is doing what all real Americans should do in a pinch. Also Valencia is really packed wall to wall people. 12,000 dead? more like 150,000. All that aside, just love the show and although there is no real Jack B. and no real John Galt, we sure could use one.

  2. Jose Alvear Says:

I think President Palmer isn’t very convincing as president. I mean, he hardly even raises his voice above a whisper! Every word he says is whispered! Argh!

I really hope he comes through and is much better as the day/season progresses.

  3. tnecvolfan2001 Says:

i think we’re expecting too much of this new president. i think he’ll surprise us later on in the day. and aaron, i don’t know what you mean by ‘24′ being racist. i think they’re very careful to put characters, esp. in the president’s cabinet, that advocate against torture and erosion of liberties in the face of terrorism. they face off against those ‘hawks’ who believe that when we’re facing an enemy of muslim extremists who use our good will and freedoms against us, that we should pull in those reigns a bit. it’s a good balance

  4. the other aaron Says:

I agree about Wayne Palmer not being as cool and commanding as David Palmer. But I think they are going to try to make us dislike him in the beginning for being a pansy and then later he’ll redeem himself in a big way and we’ll all love him. I was totally shocked to see that Graham was Jack’s brother. I’ve noticed some speculation that Josh (Graham’s son) is really Jack’s son. The timeline doesn’t add up in my head, but who knows. I think its just wishful thinking.

  5. tnecvolfan2001 Says:

good point about the future redemption of prez wayne. and, hmmmm, veerrrry interesting point about scummy graham’s son actually being jack’s. i don’t think it’s as far-fetched as you might think, other aaron.

  6. Aaron Says:

    tnecvolfan2001,
i didn’t mean that 24 IS racist, but if they start putting people in detention camps we’ll hear a LOT more about it from people speaking out. I just put that in there because i hope i doesn’t happen because I’m sick of the people that don’t understand this is just a TV show. I didn’t mean 24 is racist, sorry to confuse you.
    Aaron.

  7. tnecvolfan2001 Says:

oh no aaron, i understood your point. i didn’t really mean to say you thought it was racist. i get what you’re saying and i totally agree with you. it’s just a TV show, but at the same time the more the hysterical media screams about it, the more ‘24′ must be doing it’s job.

  8. S.a.m. Says:

I I can’t believe that scumbag is Jack’s brother! And I’m glad Jack sees him for the scumbag he is!

  9. the other aaron Says:

I know! I hate that guy! There is just something very evil about him. I hated him when he was on ER, too. I hope we get to see Jack kill him. (is that mean to say?)

He did such a terrible job lying about being glad to see Jack, and “oh, how did you get out of china? we did everything we could to get you back.” I’m sure Jack saw right through all that.

  10. Eric Says:

24 is quite clearly anti-racist and against the infringement of civil liberties.

  11. matt jackman Says:

All i have to say is that Jack better start killing people!!! Actually i really liked this episode, i agree that some very big things are coming, exspecially with jack’s dad about to make a cameo.

  12. Lucas Says:

For some reason, I think that sometime during this season there is going to be some American businessman who wants the terrorists plan to go through so that he can earn a bunch of money. Kinda like the guy in Season 2 who was a mastermind behind the nuke in America.

  13. Rosanne Says:

Loved the show. It was good to get Jack back but he definitely is not the same . It would be cool to have Donald Sutherland as his dad in the show but thats not going to happen. This is the first time in 6yrs that we are watching the TV episodes. Finished season 5 and got the first 4 episodes on DVD and taped the show last night. it is too good to wait a year to watch.

  14. the other aaron Says:

I heard that they tried to get Donald Sutherland to play Jack’s dad but couldn’t because he was busy filming something else. James Cromwell should be good though. It makes me want to go back through Season 5 to see how Graham acts. If his actions seem more directed towards Jack or just general terrorism.

  15. steve Says:

I spent the last half of the show waiting for Kiefer’s dad to turn up as Jack’s dad - I guess its not gonna happen, alas. Good point about Wayne redeeming himself later - I think that both he and his sis will live up to their late bro’s memory, which is more than can be said for Jack’s bro, who’s clearly going to get what’s coming to him sooner or later.
That was a great point about Jack’s nephew maybe being his son - makes sense.

  16. Gwen Says:

It just doesn’t seem plausible to me that nobody at CTU has made the connection yet that (1) Fayed went to all that trouble to get a scientist freed so his nukes would work + (1) their conclusion that it wasn’t the planned target and that the nuke was probably detonated because they were closing in = (2) Fayed will need a new scientist (Chloe, pull a list of everyone capable of configuring a suitcase nuke). I’m sure they’ll get there eventually but geez, it’s so obvious…

  18. JackG Says:

Didn’t all of Graem’s buddies wear Borg implants (bluetooth)? They’re like the Blue(tooth) Guys!

Wayne Palmer’s style has always been on the quiet side. He’s always talked in whispers. Which leads me to believe the writers have plans from him that are not necessarily something we’d like. I’d call him “sneaky and calculating” … remember when he was his brother’s chief of staff? He was kinda slimy then… so why not now?

James Cromwell is as close to Donald Sutherland as we could possibly get. Perhaps Donald wasn’t available.

    Jack

  19. Willy Says:

Yeah, Yeah… He fooled around with David’s big political mentor’s wife, which lead to blackmail from the mentor trying to get Wayne fired… Which lead to David calling (shudder) Sherry in to help with the situation, so she pushes the guy so hard he has a heart-attack and Sherry stands there, holding his nitro pills in her hand, watching him die. Then Wayne’s mistress kills herself, and… what else happened? The guy from Alien II kills Sherry?
