‘24′ vs. ‘Heroes’–it’s Coming

by Staff Writer

January 22nd is the day. The day where we see what kind of impact Heroes is going to have on 24’s ratings and vice versa.

There’s been a lot of talk that Heroes will actually beat out 24 for Monday night dominance, but I say “Not so fast.”

24 is coming off of it’s highest rated year ever. The 4 hour premiere really catapulted the show back into the limelight. Even with all the ‘negative’ press surrounding the nuclear explosion, 24 seems to be holding its own with old and new fans alike.

TV has Changed to. DVR’s and TiVo’s now reign supreme, and it would seem that Monday night’s the DVR’s are going to be working overtime, and everyone will watch what they want to watch when they want to watch it.

What I’m not sure of is how many 24 fans are also Heroes fans. In other words how much does the fanbases of each show overlap? I personally don’t watch Heroes, because I just don’t have the time to fit it into the TV watching schedule. But, I wanted to know how many of the readers here watch one or the other or both?

And also, who do you think is going to win the ratings battle come Monday?
Sound off in the comments.

I’m a big fan of heroes, but when it comes down to monday at 9 im gonna be watching 24. The two main reasons are 1.More people talk about 24 and it’s better to be caught up. 2. I’m recording heroes

I must say twenty four is the only of the two shows i watch, and my opinion is that twenty four will win this little competition if nothing else just because of history. Twenty four has a longer history with it’s fans, and that will be enough to get them to keep watching, and catch up with heros when they have a chance.

I actually started watching Heroes a few episodes in and its pretty good - I imagine there would be quite a bit of overlap in fan bases. For me there is no contest between the two - 24 grabs you right from the start and doesn’t let go til the end of the 24th episode - Heroes kind of meanders along somwhat aimlessly, allowing one to drift out of it now and then, which is just what I’ll be doing Monday. Besides, I think the SciFi channel (an NBC channel) airs Heroes later in the week.
My guess is that the NBC execs were horrified (for different reasons) when they saw the mushroom cloud at the end of the last 24 episode - Jack’s got more to save than a cheerleader!

“Jack’s got more to save than a cheerleader!”

    –Amen!

    Aaron.

I LOVE Heroes and even made the claim to a few people once that it’s more addicting than 24 is, but now that they’re competing for my attention, I’m not so sure which I’ll watch first. I have class on Monday nights, so I’ll be recording them both!

  6. Jeff Says:

I totally love 24 - it’s non-stop action from start to finish with political and societal themes that gives it some depth. But there’s just one main plot driving the story: track down the bad guys and kill or arrest them.

Heroes, on the other hand, has a dozen plot lines that interweave over a longer time period (which can make it seem slow in parts), but then the payoff is much richer. Heroes also has some good action, but the fantastical element (ie, cool superpowers) feeds my imagination. Jack Bauer shooting yet more bad guys doesn’t quite measure up to Hiro stopping time.

I’ll be watching Heroes first, 24 second.

    (good post, btw)

  7. Adam Says:

Those Asshats at NBC are just idiots. I love Heroes but there is no way im giving up my Monday nights for a Superhero Drama. NO WAY. Jack Bauer is on my screen monday nights and Heroes comes in second in my book and my house.

  8. Anne Says:

I watch both and love both but last night I watched 24 live and TiVo’d Heroes. I actually TiVo’d both in case of interruption :)
I am on the edge of my seat during 24 and when it’s on is the only time I look forward to Mondays. Nuff said!

  9. Ethan Says:

(Are you on the list? Heros new motto)

“You don’t want to be on Jack’s list…”

  10. Vince Says:

I love both. I watched 24 last night. And I just watched Heroes on NBC web site. Moreover, I also noticed that Fox also put 24 on the their web site too. Nice…

  11. JB Says:

Love both shows but I have been watching 24 since season 1, I am not about to stop now. Plus I am pretty sure Jack would open a can of whoop ass on all the “heroes.” Still Heroes is an awesome show and I will be catching it on the nbc site.
