All I want for Christmas…24

by Staff Writer

Some spoilers for PREVIOUS seasons lay ahead.

Well, it’s that time of year again. Grab a piece of paper and a pen, make a list of what you want, and hope that you don’t get tube socks again.

But, for me I’d like to make a list of what I’d like to see happen in the upcoming season of 24.

1. How did we get Jack back from the Chinese? The first thing I would’ve listed, if I didn’t know better, was that we get Jack back from the Chinese. Since we know that happens, I hope that it isn’t some ridiculously unbelievable reason. Also, I would like to know, how the Americans know that Jack was actually captured by the Chinese. It’s obvious that the new President Palmer knew Jack and so when this new crisis arises it’s a no-brainer that he’d want Jack back in play. But, I’m really hoping of a good believable story on why the Chinese gave Jack Bauer back.

2. Revenge Jack is back. This is something that I actually wished for a long time ago, when I first started watching 24. During the end of the first season there’s a scene where Jack feels/thinks like he’s lost everything. Like he doesn’t have anything to live for, and just goes in guns blazing. It’s one of my favorite 24 moments. Something that’s happening in this season leads me to believe that Jack is going to pull out the little number of “stops? he has left. When Jack is out for revenge, he’s a hundred times more dangerous and deadly. Numerous sources have claimed that this season will be more about Jack saving himself, rather than the country as a whole.

3. Hopefully this year Kim Bauer gets the axe. I thought it was going to happen last year when she made a pretty much worthless appearance for a few episodes while toxic nerve gas was released in CTU. It still pains me to think of poor Edgar gasping for air, dying. I thought that somehow Kim would inhale some of the gas and we’d be rid of her for good, sadly I didn’t get my wish. After re-watching the first season I realized how much she bugged me. When we get to the second season, her story becomes even more miniscule and meaningless. If I don’t get my wish in her dying, I’d really just like for her to not make an appearance in season 6. Out of sight, out of mind.

4. More gruesome torture scenes. Yes, I know that sounds morbid. I know we all cringed when we watched Jack break that guys fingers one by one in season 5, but the torture scenes are half the fun of the show. Watching Jack break every human rights law in the book trying to get information, is fantastic. Although I hope none of that happens in real-life. I won’t even dare comment on whether it does or doesn’t. It’d be interesting to know though. But, then again it’s one of those things I’d rather not know, if indeed it does happen.

5. Last but not least, bring back Mandy. By far the longest living bad guy girl on 24. I would love to see Mandy be the primary focus of the major investigation. She always ducks in and out at the most opportune times. Plus, Mia Kirshner is a great actress. You can’t say you didn’t love in the first season when she blew up that plane. Hopefully she’ll be back to reprise her role.

Well, that’s it for my list of what I would like for 24, in the sixth season.

Can anyone think of anything else they’d put on their list for the show?
Tell us in the comments.

[...] As I talked about in my article All I Want for Christmas 24 one thing I hope to see this season is Mandy back in a bigger role. Mandy, played by Mia Kirshner, has ducked in and out of season after season. Season 4 was her biggest part in 24 as she kidnapped Tony and threatened to kill him if she wasn’t able to get free of the horde of CTU agents closing in on her. [...]

I completely disagree with you about Kim Bauer. I think she adds an important layer to the show. Jack has lost almost all of his friends and Kim and Audrey are the only people he still loves. Without Kim, Jack is left with nothing and, while her plots have been somewhat ridiculous in the past (i.e. Cougar), she really is an interesting and entertaining part of the show. I know that if Kim got the axe, millions of fans would be completely turned off including myself and it seems to me that many people would like to see her back in a non-forced role. If the writers are smart, they will bring her back.
