TV Bender, A Definition

by TV Bender

TV Bender: (slang) Extended periods of heavy television watching.

A more informal definition: Last spring break, over a period of 9 days, I watched 5 seasons of The Sopranos.

From Chicago to Boston: 250 minutes
From Boston to Montreal: 465 minutes
Season 1: 680 minutes
Season 2: 780 minutes
Season 3: 780 minutes
Season 4: 800 minutes
Season 5: 780 minutes
From Montreal to Boston: 465 minutes
From Boston to Chicago: 250 minutes

Assume an average of 9 hours of sleep everyday (this is on the low end).

Doing some quick math here, 9 days X 24 hours in a day = 12,960 minutes
Subtract from that the total traveling time, 12,960 - 1,430 = 11,530 minutes
Subtract from that the total time spent sleeping 11,530 - 4,860 = 6,670 minutes

Total time spent watching tv: 3,820 minutes
Total time awake: 6,670

Percentage of time spent watching tv: 3,280 / 6,670 = 49.17%

That was a tv bender!

Welcome to the fold. I’m Aaron, I write for 451Press also, and am also a fellow TV critic. I’m doing the Watching The Office, 24, Prison Break, and Family Guy blogs. It’s a lot to handle, but like you I do spend quite a bit of time watching TV too.

But, wow! TV and Math together, that post kinda blew my brain. But, if you’re a Prison Break 24 fan I expect to see you over on my sites :)

Also, make sure to come and talk in the forums with the other writers! It’s invaluable.

    Aaron.

Awesome intro Muhammad! I have to say, I’m humbled by your bender. The best I’ve done is watching a full season of Friends in one sitting.. You are the master.

  4. DaveP Says:

Hi Muhammed, Nice intro, I’ll definitely be a regular reader. I’m also a 451 Presser doing the UK Pop Culture blog.

What’s weird is I read an interview with you on some site about social bookmarking a few days ago. It’s a small world. :)

    Hey everyone,

Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for stopping bye.

Wow! And I thought that watching a season of MacGyver in a week was impressive. (Well, it did mess with my head, so, maybe that’s why.)

  7. Farley Says:

Yeah, I thought I was crazy when I watched season 2 of Veronica Mars in less than 2 days so I could view the season finale when it aired. And that I watched all 7 seasons of Buffy over the course of a year. Now i don’t feel so bad.
