I think we all remember last week. Jack finally added a few more people to his kill count, Fayed finally stopped riding in his truck, and ex-President Logan got stabbed in the shoulder by his completely insane ex-wife. We were left wondering if Logan was going to pull through. He flatlined at the very end of the episode, and his very last word just might have been “Martha” now that’s just too bad. Rick “Mikey Doyle” Schroder appeared on the scene looking like life had taken a toll on him since his child star days. As always it seemed like the new guy at 24, apparently is in charge of everything, and is a real pain in the batookie.

In short last week’s episode was vintage 24.

Now lets take a look at the preview for this week’s episode, and talk about it after the jump:

Well, tonight’s episode looks pretty intense to say the least. A drone is launched, Jack is on the hunt, VP Powers Boothe is threatening a nuclear attack on the unnamed Middle Eastern country, and surprise there’s a MOLE in CTU no way.

From the preview we can tell that Jack will be adding at least one other person to his kill count, Bill Buchanan is going to be doing a lot of recapping, and Nadia is looking pretty yipee!

In all seriousness tonight’s episode looks like it’s going to be really good. But, what does Jack think he’s going to do when he says “I’m going to hunt down these people and finish this?” Doesn’t he know that he still has 10 hours to go? Silly Jack he still hasn’t learned that nothing ends until the next day.

I’m really looking forward to getting back to the old 24. Jack leading teams into buildings, wars about to be waged, and basically millions of lives resting in CTU’s collective hands.

What are you looking forward to?

I think I’m alone in this, but I expect that there is NO mole in CTU this time. Three things about this season have convinced me of that. First, the preview explicitely mentions a “leak” and that someone is “Subverting our systems”. Though a minor clue at best, it does provide the form of my conclusion.

Second, way back in episode 1 before the first commercial even, Chloe extorts info out of Nadia by threatening to reveal that months before she had failed to secure the CTU server, leaving it wide open to hacking. This mistake sets up Nadia to be blamed for the leak, as she has failed before, and provides an alternate explanation.

And third, the last few seasons have been all about taking familiar circumstances and twisting them to a differnt outcome. Jack invades a consolate? Seen it in season 4, but not sucessful. A nuke explodes in the US? Season 2, but it only took out George and maybe a hiker. A CTU agent must work with a former enemy? Curtis dies for making a mistake that Jack avoided in season 2 and 3, killing an enemy with critical information.

A mole at CTU? Season 1 focused on that as the main threat and twist. Season 4 had a new character introduced who was revealed a few episodes later. Season 5 had Spencer, revealed as a mole for the White House and caught in the same episode. Season 6 will see Nadia blamed for the leak and suspected of being a mole, but she will be cleared within a few episodes.

Good point about the mole Ken. I’m thinking you may be right. But, that whole thing with Milo logging Nadia on earlier in the season has to come back into play sometime right? I think it should anyway. Any ideas?

  3. Luke Says:

Nadia is a spy, if 24 taught me anything it’s that all muslims are terrorists.

  4. Eric Says:

Which is exactly the opposite message from what the show is trying to give to people. :p

Did you see the preview from a day or two ago? I wonder what Jack meant when he said “you should have told me about Audrey”. Hmmm … what’s your guess on that one? She got married, tried to commit suicide, is dead? Hard to tell. Jack didn’t seem overtly upset so my guess is she’s still alive, but what should Bill have told Jack about her? And is that preview for tonight’s episode, or the season as a whole?
